Fri, 16 June 2006 In this, the inaugural episode of EpiscoPod, meet the geekiest of EpiscoGeeks from General Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Comments[6] |
Wed, 14 June 2006 Yeah, so I know I promised to get the first episode up by today, but alas, GC beckons. The first episode of the Convention Daily -- which I do the page design and layout for -- was supposed to get to the printer last night at 11:00. We finally put it to bed at 2 this morning. Thanks be to God that Futurama was on adult swim when I fell into bed. Bender had decided to become a foster parent in a scheme to make money. I never really understood why he thought that a pack of kids would be profitable -- of course he eventually discovered the opposite to be true. Then, this got me thinking about my wife (who is pregnant), and money, and then I really couldn't sleep.Okay... I know... TMI. Suffice it to say, I had planned to edit audio after 11 last night, and I was way too tired. Of course, GC will do that to you. At least this time around I can be completely tired without being bitchy. Especially with friends like James (pictured on left) here with me; or my old friend Mary Frances who is my boss on the paper. So, my blog recommendation of the day is a flickr feed. Bowie Snodgrass, who is web content editor for episcopalchurch.org, has been posting great photos from all over Columbus. All of her photos are public and open for download. Be sure to check out the 30 photos she posted from last night's U2charist. Or you can check out my pool shooting prowess. Bowie hopes to establish a taxonomy that includes the following tags: generalconvention episcopalchurch comeandgrow exhibitionhall houseofbishops presidingbishop houseofdeputies youngpeople eucharist trinitycolumbus So, if you're here in Columbus, and you are posting to flickr, please consider using these tags, and sharing any that you feel need be included. Do let me know about any flickr feeds that are posting from GC -- neither Bowie nor I can find any others. Seriously, podcast is soon to come. peace. Tue, 13 June 2006 The interviews have begun, the temperature is perfect, the skies are clear, and the anticipated launch of the first EpiscoPod podcast is less than 24 hours away. The wonderful thing is that so many people are using new technology to tell the world about GC. Priests are blogging to their congregations, bishops are blogging to their dioceses, lay people are blogging to the world, and the love of Jesus Christ is present in all of these blogs in different ways. My buddy Sara is here, bouncing a baby and working hard as a deputy can, and she still finds time to blog. I really like her take on how the MDGs might just become the major work of this GC. But then again, no one else can put it the way Sara does: "I had goose bumps over and over while people were talking. It felt to
me like a refreshing and Holy Spirit driven opportunity for the church
to do the real work of the Gospel in the world. It felt - to be kind of
crass - like a way to get our heads out of our butts and do some work." (read more at SaraMcGinley.blogspot.com) Then Zinnhead has some really great personal reflections about GC. She's doing some really great photo blogging. Do take a look at her photos from the Eyes Wide Open exhibit. Many of us our anxiously awaiting the arival of Fr. Jake, and can't wait to see what he digs up in Columbus. Well, out to interview more folks for EpiscoPod's inaugural episode. More later. Rock on! Category: GC2006 -- posted at: 9:22 AM Comments[4] |
Mon, 12 June 2006 A new race is forming here. They are... EPISCOPALIANS! As reported to many, I had planned to blogroll all of the bloggers I could who were blogging from General Convention (hereinafter referred to as GC), but why do it when someone else has already done all the work for us. I'm actually quite impressed with the gencon06 list, especially when you scroll down and realize that this rather conservative site has included every blogger possible. I have just sent over a few more that they didn't have, so watch that list grow. Hey, I really don't care who provides the resources -- bits are bits and links are links. Of course, there are a few blogs that I would like to feature, and do watch this space for a blog of the day. But keep your eye on: Nick Knisely, the geekiest priest I know, is blogging. He's got his phone set up to snap photos and immediately post them to his blog. Nick, a physics professor, tech evangelist, and president of the Special Commission on the Episcopal Church and Communications, will be a guest on EpiscoPod Episode One, airing this Wednesday. Don't miss it. Chris Rankin-Williams will be keeping in touch with his parishioners and the folks of California on a regular basis. And, it was loved (and hated) in Denver, and now The UnConventional Times is back. The posting of a site on EpiscoPod is not an endorsement, and the opinions expressed in these blogs are those of their authors and not necessarily shared by this site. That said, there is a new site called TightAssOneNine that has as its tagline, "Jesus loves me but he can't stand you." And yet to come: my buddy Lauren Auttonberry will be blogging between pool games. She and I might also give the dive report, as we are both fond of bars with quarter-pool tables. Mon, 5 June 2006 It's comin' at ya... Episcopod!Episcopod will feature the episcopized rants of Sean McConnell, and a number of friends mostly from the Anglican persuasion. Of course many argue that being Episcopalian is a matter of choice, but for McConnell, it's equal parts nature and nurture. If you want to see what we're doing for real, join us right here at Episcopod.com beginning Wednesday, June 14, for daily reports from the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in Columbus, Ohio. Following General Convention, Episcopod will be podcasting at you each week. So be sure to sign up at iTunes or right here. Be the first on your block to get Episcopized... ZAP!!!
